During his four years at Vantage Point, Catalin worked in several Data Analyst and Project Manager roles at a Tier 1 Investment bank. Since leaving Vantage Point, he has gone on to progress in his career and is now working as a Consultant at a global accountancy firm.
What influenced your decision to pursue a career in the banking industry initially?
I completed a three-week Summer internship on the trading floor at a bank and became really intrigued by the way the team operated. This combined with my International Banking and Finance degree background was what led me to want to pursue a career in the banking industry.
Can you tell us a bit about your experience working for Vantage Point?
I was continuously growing and learning throughout my time with Vantage Point. The more I stepped into my role, the more oversight and responsibility I was offered, for example, at one point I was given the opportunity to become an ambassador and was responsible for a group of consultants. I was also involved with many exciting projects whilst on site with the client. One of the first ones that stood out to me was when I was involved in a project where I was able to gain a deep understanding of the whole process of how data flows, from how documentations are processed to how they flow through to the front office for initial margin calculations, and then through to the traders. It was interesting to see this data flow in a large organisation.
What advice would you give to someone about to start the academy?
Vantage Point gives you great opportunities and opens many doors to the Banking industry. Make sure to be transparent and discuss any challenges you are facing so that you can be given the support you need. I would also recommend reaching out to as many senior consultants to get advice and discuss their own experiences.
